The cities of Sebring and Avon Park have made a list they probably don’t want to be on – as one of the poorest cities in Florida. Sebring was ranked at #5 with Avon Park at #6 in the Top 10 list.
The report says Sebring has the 8th lowest median income in the state. Meanwhile, the City of Charm is said to have the 22nd highest incidence of poverty and the 3rd highest unemployment rate.
The top four include Opa Locka, Belle Glade, Palatka and Pahokee.
Highlands County Sheriff’s officials say they’re seeing a new wrinkle on an old scam. A local resident received a text message saying there was a warrant for her arrest – on an actual warrant form.
Authorities remind residents, those who have warrants don’t get a phone call, they get a visit from a uniformed deputy. Also, paying off a fine, does not cancel a warrant.
Anyone who receives such communications, or has questions about the process, is invited to call the Sheriff’s Office.
