News Update for 9/18/23
Highlands County Sheriff’s detectives are unravelling the circumstances around an apparent murder. A 21-year-old Avon Park man was found shot to death behind a home on South A Avenue in the City of Charm during the early morning hours over the weekend. Authorities say the homeowner found the body about 1:AM after hearing gunshots. Sheriff’s authorities are asking anybody with information on the incident to contact them.
The city of Frostproof will grow this evening when their city council meets. They will hear the second and final reading on an annexation proposal, bringing more than 50 acres under municipal jurisdiction. The property, off Davis Keen Road, is owned by Norris Citrus Groves.
In other action, the council will hear from Avon Park Air Force Range Operations Dirctor Charles “Buck” McLaughlin about the Compatible Use Plan for the Range, and will look at the Evaluation & Apprasial Report for their Comprehensive Plan.
Today is the birthday of the United States Air Force, and the Military Sea Services Museum in Sebring will be holding a party for the flyboys. Everyone – but especially Air Force veterans – is invited to the facility on Kenilworth Blvd for free cake and ice cream – and to have a look around the facility.
The festivities will commence this afternoon at 1:00.
