News Update for 9/15/22

Reportedly there was a collision between a motor vehicle and a Highlands County School bus this morning. The shunt occurred at the intersection of Highway 27 & State Road 70 near the so-called “Bear’s Den.”
There were NO STUDENTS on board bus #109 at the time of the mishap. No injuries have been reported. Florida Highway Patrol Troopers have been dispatched to handle it.

When it comes to small business, it appears the Avon Park-Sebring metro area is more dependent than most. A new survey by Smartest Dollar shows that in our area better than half – 54.5-percent of the workers are employed by small business, with a like amount of total payroll.
Nationally, 46.4-percent of commerce is small business, with only 39.4-percent accounting for total payroll.
Locally there are over 1500 small businesses listed accounting for over 11,000 employees.

Some Florida cities are considered among the worst for asthma sufferers and a Polk County community is one of them.
The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America released its 2022 Asthma Capitals report yesterday, showing the 100 worst cities for asthma sufferers. Lakeland ranks fourth.
Orlando came in 15th, Miami is 22nd, Jacksonville is 31st, and Tampa, 33rd. Detroit, Michingan is the worst, followed by Cleveland, Ohio and Allentown, Pennsylvania.
