News Update for 7/10/23
According to reports, Sebring is suffering a problem with the homeless. Apparently, tourists have said they have been accosted in the pier beach area near the Highlands Lakeside Theater – and will never return.
One merchant in the downtown area recounted a story of a homeless man deficating on the street near his shop on Ridgewood Drive and exposing himself.
City and county officials are calling for a workshop to discuss how to deal with the issue.
Avon Park city council members will get a clarification from city attorney Gerald Buhr
on an ordinance when they meet in regular session this evening. The measure regards the authority of the mayor to issue or reject certain proclamations or one-time recognition periods.
In other action, the council will consider municipal purchasing policies for community development block grant funds.
Frostproof city council members will get together this evening for a workshop session. At issue in the Friendly City will be a budget discussion for the upcoming 2023-24 fiscal year.
Frostproof Finance Director Winnie Gordon will present the city’s estimated revenue and projected expenses for council’s consideration.
