News Update for 5/9/24
Despite pushback from members of the local community, the Sebring city council has approved a plan that would move memorial plaques and bricks, once on the Historic Circle, out to Veterans’ Beach.
Sebring City Administrator Scott Noethlic made the presentation showing the plan, that will cost taxpayers about $17,000.
There had been complaints about the homeless on the circle defecating behind the memorial and defacing the monuments.
The Central Florida Regional Planning Council will hold a visioning session for the city of Sebring this evening. That one will commence at 6:00 at the Jack Stroup Civic Center in the Alan Altvader Cultural Complex.
The goal is to update the comprehensive plan for the city on the circle. Officials say they are looking for citizen involvment to help update the plan.
Firefighters from the city of Avon Park were called out last night to put out a brush fire. That one happened behind a storage facility located just north of Stryker Road.
There were no injuries, however, there was some soffet damage to the structure. Cause of the blaze still is under investigaion.
Three pets are dead after a fire in Fort Meade. It happened yesterday at a home off East US Highway 98 on the outskirts of the city.
No people were hurt, but firefighters say the home sustained extensive damage.
There’s no word on a cause.
Frostproof soon will be the site of a new Polk County facility. Polk County commissioners reportedly have hire Strickland Construction to build a new county roadway maintenance facility in The Friendly City. That will come at a cost of $4.4 million.
The multi-building facility will check in at about 13,000 square feet, and will allow the county to provide better, faster service to roadways in the southern end of Polk County.
