News Update for 5/3/24

The gates opened to the public this morning for this weekend’s Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS, at the Sebring International Raceway. Today will be practice sessions for GT America, TC America, Pirelli GT4, TGRNA GR Cup, and the Fanatec GT cars.
Action begins in earnest tomorrow with qualifying and races planned, as well as parade laps, hot laps and autograph sessions.
Camping is available, and the entire track is open for viewing.
Tickets are available through the Sebring International Raceway website. The event runs through Sunday.

Hundreds of people turned out yesterday at the Highlands County courthouse for the 31st annual National Day of Prayer observance. Those in attendance were surprised at a new addition this year – a pair of wide screen TVs to help those in the back see the speakers more clearly.
Highlands County Clerk of Courts Jerome Kasubowski – who organized the event, noted that the large screens and the generator that powered them were donated for the event.
Pastors Nathaniel Crumedy and Jason Kopta were the speakers. Kopta issued a strong call for Christians to work to save the Republic.

Units from Desoto City were called out yesterday afternoon to dispatch a fire. The blaze apparently started in an abandoned structure, then sparked the nearby brush to catch fire.
The incident occued near the Jacks Creek preserve and Josephine Creek. No injuries were reported. Cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
