News Update for 5/26/22

They’ve been growing together for years, now, staff from the cities of Avon Park and Sebring are getting together to establish boundaries. The two municipalities are hammering out an interlocal agreement to set a plan for upcoming annexations.
Avon Park city attorney Gerald Buhr said that officials from the Sun ‘N Lake Improvement District also may be invited to participate in the talks.
The idea is to establish measured growth in the county.

Highlands County school board members were called on the carpet during their meeting this week for what was termed “selective enforcement” of some of their policies. Resident Stacy Hinson questioned the board about an employee who “failed to disclose pertinent information” on their job application – but apparently was given the post.
She also talked about the difference in step levels in employees, as well as decisions in closing or extending the terms of job applications for the system.
Board members had no response to the questions.
