Apparently, not much work comes out of Highlands County. A new report by HireAHelper shows that the Sebring-Avon Park metro area shows the third lowest Gross Domestic Product per worker in the United States. The Annual GDP here falls under $70,000 – that breaks out to just over $25,000 per capita.
That compares to a national average of over $105,000 or just over $69,000 per capita.

Some more heavy weather blew through Highlands County over the weekend. Authorities say it was straight-line winds that took the roof off a home near Dinner Lake in Sebring yesterday. According to witnesses, a number of trees also were knocked down.
There were no reports of any injuries in the incident, and no dollar damage estimate has been released.
Apparently, it was the only major incident related to the storm activity.

A Lake Wales man was killed over the weekend in a traffic crash. Police in the Crown Jewel of the Ridge say a car driven by 31-year-old Tyrell Rashad Sloan was northbound on Highway 27 during the early-morning hours Saturday, when he lost control of his vehicle near Chalet Suzanne Road.

The car veered off the highway and hit a pole. Sloan was declared dead at the scene.
