News Update for 4/20/22
Florida Highway Patrol officials now say it was a Lake Wales man that was killed in that motorcycle accident early yesterday morning.
The 35-year-old rider failed to make a curve on the Panther Parkway just south of the circle and flipped the bike – he was pronounced dead at the scene. Reports say he was not wearing a helmet.
Without comment, Highlands County commissioners yesterday voted to remove restrictions set for the Las Palmas at Kenilworth, The action will allow for more moderate-income housing in the development east of Sebring.
County officials say they soon should have the results of last week’s campaign to find out how much damage was done to local businesses and residents by that April 4th hailstorm.
Once county officials collate the results, they will research what resources may be available to help residents. An update on those potential efforts could be available by the end of this week.
Frostproof has some old new council members. Frostproof City Manager/Clerk Nicole McDowell swore in City Council member Mike Hutto at this week’s City Council meeting.
Hutto was returned to office without opposition. After the swearing in ceremony, City Council re-elected Jon Albert as Mayor and Austin Gravley as Vice Mayor.
Police in Lake Wales are looking for a young, black male in connection with an armed robbery there. They say a man with a gun stuck up the Gate Gas Station on Highway 27 North in the Crown Jewel of the Ridge. He took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled.
He is described as a very thin, black male – possibly in his 20s. Anyone with information as to this robbery is asked to call the Lake Wales police.
