News Update for 4/15/22
Today is Good Friday and officials at the Highlands County School system have announced there are no classes today for students here. Motorists are reminded to watch out for youngsters out and about during regular school hours.
Classes will resume on Monday.
Despite some rain in the area, conditions remain dry overall. Firefighters from West Sebring and Desoto City were called to extinguish a brush fire yesterday at State Road 66 and McCoy Road south of Sebring.
There were no injuries or structure damage reported. Cause of the blaze was not released.
Florida Forest Service officials have listed Highlands as being at a “Moderate” level for fire danger. Nevertheless, they say residents should be careful with any outdoor burning.
Polk County Sheriff’s officials are conducting a death investigation in East Lake Wales. Deputies were called to a home on Walk-In-Water road near a trail entrance there.
No other details have yet been released.
