News Update for 12/2/22
If you like Christmas Parades, this is your weekend. The Sebring Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade will begin to move up Ridgewood Drive starting at 7pm tonight. Officials say this will be the longest processional for them in a while. There will be ten more units added and there’s a waiting list in case anyone should drop out.
The Carousel of Lights was illuminated last weekend and the Maranatha Baptist Church will offer caroling in front of the Circle Theatre just prior to the parade.
Frostproof will hold their 30th annual Christmas Parade tomorrow. That’ll kick off at 6pm Saturday. Frostproof’s oldest living resident, Dot Williford will be the grand marshal. That’ll run up the Scenic Highway, with a Holly Jolly Christmas Party at Henderson Field to follow.
The Hardee Chamber of Commerce will hold ‘A Caroling Christmas’ Parade tomorrow starting at 6pm.
Santa’s Workshop will be before the Parade at the Wauchula Train Depot.
Today the props arrive at the Alan Jay Pistons & Props historic racing event at the Sebring International Raceway. Vintage aircraft will taxi down the backstretch and join the cars in the paddock. That’s all slated for 4:00 this afternoon.
Qualifying and sprint races will run all day today at the historic track. For those who like night racing – there will be more of that tomorrow. The cars will run Saturday until almost midnight,
Staged by Historic Sports Car Racing, the Pistons & Props event runs through Sunday.
Highlands County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man yesterday after shots were fired outside a home on Glacier Avenue in Avon Park. Authorities say nobody was injured in the incident.
However, 33-year-old John Joseph Edwards has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. No further details have been released.
One man was injured when he was attacked in Polk County.
Winter Haven Police say Jose Torres hit a man with a metal baseball bat at a gas station on First Street North.
The man then tackled Torres, and a woman in Torres’ car then grabbed the bat and hit the man herself.
Police say the victim’s girlfriend then intervened.
After that altercation Torres allegedly hit the victim with his car then rammed the victim’s car before finally leaving the parking lot.
Torres is facing charges that include aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
