Firefighters in Highlands County were busy over the weekend. Units from Sun ‘N Lakes South, Placid Lakes, and Highlands Park worked with Florida Forest Service Crews to contain a brush fire off Claverton Drive and Brevard Avenue in Lake Placid. The
The fire threatened no structures and has been allowed to burn itself out within the confines of fire break lines. There were no injuries reported and so far, no cause for the fire has been released.
The Sebring Blue Streak win Friday night over the Fort Pierce Cobras was more than another step toward the State Championship playoffs, it broke a record that had stood for more than half a century.
Lavaar Scott now is the winningest coach in Sebring Blue Streak football history. His 85th win cements the record over coach Glen Odlham who set the record back in 1967 – both reached the accomplishment in 13 seasons.
Playoffs will commence this Friday at Firemen’s Field when Sebring takes on the Westwood Panthers.
A Wauchula resident has died in a Hardee County traffic crash. Florida Highway Patrol reports say the 48-year-old man was northbound on US 17 near Keeton Road, when he ran into the rear of a semi-tractor trailer rig.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers say the mishap still is under investigation.
The Crown Jewel of the Ridge is getting the business. Advanced Drainage Systems, Inc. has officially confirmed that it will build a new, state-of-the-art pipe manufacturing facility in Lake Wales.
Company officials say they plan to break ground “sometime next year” on a 100-acre site with frontage off Hunt Brothers Road.
When completed, the plant will manufacture corrugated plastic pipe, adding to the company’s currently existing manufacturing presence in Florida.
