News Update for 11/30/22

Drivers and cars in this year’s Alan Jay Pistons & Props event are getting their first official taste of the Sebring International Raceway today. Test and tune sessions are being run for all classes.
Qualifying races will start tomorrow. Also slated for tomorrow are competitions in the BRM Endurance Challenge, the Stoner Car Care Global GT Race and the Classic RS Cup.
The Alan Jay Pistons & Props event runs through Sunday.

Today is the last day of the 2022 hurricane season. In total, there were 14 named storms, including 8 hurricanes, with 2 being major hurricanes.
According to the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration – that falls a bit below the seasonal average. Two of the storms, Hurricanes Ian and Nichole affected our area.
While debris removal continues in Highlands County, the disaster recovery center in Hardee County is slated to be shut down at the end of business tomorrow.
Although the Wauchula office will be closed, residents still will be able to obtain FEMA assistance online.

A St. Lucie County child is dead after a family boat trip turned tragic near Dundee.
Polk County sheriff’s officials announced yesterday that the youngster’s body was found in Lake Annie near Dundee.
The nine-year-old was on a pontoon boat with his father and two brothers on Saturday when he fell overboard and was hit by the propeller.
He was not wearing a life vest and was not required to. Sheriff Grady Judd says poor visibility in the lake made it hard to find the boy. His name has not been released.
