News Update for 11/20/23
It’s very foggy in parts of Highlands and surrounding counties this morning. Officials caution drivers to leave a bit early for their destiations, slow down and use their low-beam headlights for better visibility until the fog lifts.
Usually, the Highlands County commission meets the first and third Tuesday of each month – but not this week. Due to the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday, the session has been pushed back. It will be held next Tuesday – which will be the fourth Thursday of the month.
It looks like the city of Frostproof is about to grow – quite a bit. Commissioners in “The Friendly City” will meet tonight and look at approving a planned unit development off West Mann Road.
Dubbed “The Crooked Lake Habitat,” it will comprise about 100 acres, with better than 40 units – to be set on the property.
In other action, the council will look at a six-acre annexation and make plans for their December 2nd Christmas Parade.
Lake Wales police are looking for more information after a traffic stop netted them an arrest. Officials in the Crown Jewel of the Ridge stopped a car on Highway 60 East, but when they ran the vehicle, the Chevrolet Traverse came back as a car that had been stolen in Miami Shores.
They arrested but the driver, Tiya Sullivan of Texas and her passenger Jade Matthews of Louisiana. Authorities now are trying to determine what they were doing in Lake Wales.
