News Update for 11/14/22
Avon Park city council members will take care of a lot of business this evening when they meet in regular session. It will begin with the swearing-in of Mayor Garrett Anderson and Councilman Jim Barnard – both incumbents handily won re-election in balloting earlier this month.
Council also will approve municipal budgets for the upcoming fiscal year both for the city and the community redevelopment agency. They also will look at a consulting firm for the city’s drinking water system and consider purchasing several vehicles.
The board also will take a look at a number of proposed Christmastime events for the City of Charm.
The Sebring Parkway was shut down for a time near Memorial Boulevard due to a traffic accident. At this time it appears two vehicles were involved, with one apparently struck from behind.
It remains unclear if anybody had to be transported. Florida Highway Patrol troopers are on scene, but have not released any details on the accident.
The search for a wanted man has resulted in the arrest of a woman in Lake Wales. According to reports, police spotted a vehicle tied to suspect Carlos Williams, being driven by Shanel Mickel.
She told officers she had been with Williams, but did not know his current whereabouts. In a subsequent search of her room at the Prince of Wales Motel, officers found a cash of illegal and prescription drugs.;
Mickel was charged with numerous counts and booked into the Polk County jail.
