News Update for 10/24/22
Avon Park city council members will continue their efforts to make the City of Charm more business friendly when they meet this evening in regular session. They will hold a second reading and public hearing on a measure that will make it easier to have home-based businesses there.
The council also will look at inking a new contract to keep the Mowerplex on the Avon Park airport grounds. The facility is the first for-purpose lawn mower racetrack in the United States.
In other action, the council will look at a code enforcement moratorium for debris clean up and talk over approving several upcoming special events.
A motorcycle and a van reportedly collided last night. The mishap occured about 6:00 on County Road 29 near Lake Placid.
Florida Highway Patrol officials have released no details on the the incident. However, apparently at least one person was transported to an area hospital.
One person was killed and another was seriously injured in a weekend traffic crash on Highway 27 near Frostproof. According to reports A Ford SUV pulling a trailer went off the road and flipped – ejecting two of the occupants.
Killed was 37-year-old Jose Carlos Guiterrez Soto of Bartow, 39-year-old Cornilio Guiterrez Soto was taken to a trauma center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Reportedly, the SUV may have suffered a blow-out.
