Highlands County Sheriff’s deputies have made an arrest in connection with a burglary incident during the response to Hurricane Ian. Somebody broke in to Edgewood Landscaping – damaging vehicles and stealing equipment that could have been used in helping huricane recovery.
Highlands County Sheriff’s officials now say they have arrested Dominic Alex Oliver in connection with the crime. The 27-year-old Avon Park man reportedly has confessed and led deputies to where the equipment had been stashed.
He has been charged with burglary during a state of emergency, grand theft and felony criminal mischief.
Florida Highway Patrol officials now say it was a Lorida resident that was killed in a two-vehicle accident Wednesday night. According to reports, the 60-year-old man was on County Road 621 and had stopped to assist a disabled vehicle.
As he walked back to his pickup, he was struck and killed by a van. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident remains under investigation.
It now apparently is easier to run a business out of your home. Avon Park city council members recieved an update from the Central Florida Regional Planning Council outlining new state statutes regarding home occupation standards.
Although there are some regulations on parking, noise and nuisance factors, residents now will be able to to many more things at their homes.
State officials have removed much of the home rule regarding residential districts.
