News Update for 10/12/22

Avon Park residents will be getting a bit of a reprieve as they recover from Hurricane Ian. Code Enforcement officers in the City of Charm will be backing off a bit while debris is piled along the roadway waiting for pickup.
The officers have been busy knocking on doors reminding folks that their debris must be separated into three individual piles for pickup. One for vegetative materials, a second for household goods and a third for construction & demolition debris.
The relaxed enforcement will be on until mid-November.

Highlands County Commissioner Arlene Tuck will be holding office hours this afternoon. The District Four Commissioner will be at the Sebring Chamber of Commerce Conference Room from 4-6pm to discuss some new ideas for the county, and to take input from residents.
Refreshments will be served.

A lifelong dream is now fulfilled for a fallen Polk County sheriff’s deputy. A memorial service was held yesterday at Lakeland’s Victory Church for Blane Lane.
Governor Ron DeSantis and about a thousand others paid their respects to the 21-year-old who was shot to death in the line of duty last week. Lane hoped to be sheriff one day, so Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd presented Blane’s family with a plaque recognizing their son as Honorary Sheriff for eternity.
