The new year begins with some good news for business in the area. A new report from Upgraded Points shows that the Sebring/Avon Park area is just one of nine metro areas in the country to see an increase in brick and mortar retail outlets.
There is one retail store for every 3.2 residents here.
The increas measured only about a third of a percent, but the survey showed that many states in the northeast and west marked a decline in local retail outlets.

A New Year’s eve water leak at the Groves at Victoria Park apartments has resulted in the displacement of all 140 residents there. The the City of Sebring has condemned the entire building – saying that residents cannot return until the fire alarm and sprinkler system are fully operational.
For the time being, residents have been transitioned to local hotels, and New Hope has been called to assist in short and long-term accomodations.
It remains unclear how long it may take for restoration and drying efforts.

The Frostproof Chamber of Commerce has a new executive director, Amanda Bryant started work today. Bryant is the former marketing director for Bryant & Smith Insurance.
Shew says she currently is getting up to speed with current chamber projects to begin work in the Friendly City.
